I know. I know.
You subscribed to this website sometime during a previous geological era (or 2011 to be accurate), and for the next seven years (until 2018) I’d updated frequently, after which I’d then kept in touch for roughly as often as Halley’s Comet. The day of this farewell you might have noticed, immediately upon your visit, that the header is gone, that I’ve removed over 500 articles from this website, and that it looks like I’m… moving out.
I am.
However, I’ve kept published on this website two exegetical posts—your two favorites—because I know you love to reference them. I’ve also retained two posts of social commentary. I will retain this domain for you. And finally I’ve left up the first post written here, for the demonstrative purpose that the very first post was also about arriving from somewhere else and about shifting registers from literature to feminism. And although these two subjects are not separable, my journey has circled my online presence back to the previous register.
I bear news as well:
My debut novel will be published. It’s speculative literary fiction. You can learn about it and its release date here: https://anahitanisasultana.com/serenade-to-saturn/
Some writers maintain a consistent online presence. I chose a more mysterious strategy called “accidental disappearance.” I seem to have cultivated the publication schedule of long silences interrupted by sudden announcements.
The novel has a title, Serenade to Saturn, and—most improbably of all—a publication date that is March 8, 2027. International Women’s Day. There’s an opportunity on the page to subscribe for updates about its release and about preorders.

So sad to hear this Nahida! You are/were one of the most inspiring, staunchly Islamic feminist voices out there! I love(d) your work. One of my favorite posts was the one about your hajj experiences. May Allah bless you in all your new endeavours and adventures!

While deeply saddened to see you delete your essays, I can’t judge you as it’s ultimately your decision. But, would you be willing to create a nonfiction book based on your past Islamic essays? I’d love to buy them. I think your voice was deeply needed and impactful for Islam and I would like to have them physically so my children could read them.
This is a more personal request as well but I remember you once tutored someone in Islamic studies, are you open to still do that or was that a specific event?

Yes, I can certainly create a book based on past essays. Thank you for leaving this comment.
And yes, I used to do it regularly over a decade ago, but, life has happened. ☺️ I no longer have bandwidth, but it means a lot that there’s interest!

Hello Miss Nahida. It seems I have discovered you too late.

Sorry it seems my previous comment was sent incomplete. What i meant to relay is that your works found me during a time of great confusion and struggle with reconciling my moral compass with what I was told my religion says. Your words offered me a fresh and comforting perspective on God’s words. For the first time in my life, I don’t hate being a woman. You have inspired millions, and I don’t want to burden you with any requests but if you do release this compilation of all your works I would be first in line. I have major FOMO hearing others say there used to be some hundred articles from you, as I’ve only read the few you have kept up and it has made me thirsty for more of your ideas. Forever grateful for your contribution and thank you.

Salaam Aeiysha (I love this spelling), thank you for this comment. It means a lot to me. I have a project I’m working on that should wrap up in the next couple of months, but after that, I think I’ll begin on the compilation and be able to provide it before the end of 2027.
